But what do 'ordinary' South Africans think? Public opinion survey on foreign policy

Departments of Political Science and Politics (University of Stellenbosch)

A joint study by the departments of Political Science and Politics based at the University of Stellenbosch and Cape Town respectively, to undertake a public opinion survey to gauge the perceptions and views of the South African public on foreign policy issues. Specific objectives of the study are to:

  • provide a sense of ordinary South Africans' foreign policy beliefs, orientations and values; and
  • understand the attitudes of ordinary South Africans on foreign policy in the post-apartheid period by assessing how public attitudes align with those of the government; evaluating public perceptions towards African political and developmental issues and views of what is deemed to constitute the national interest.
